Deep in the Far Reaches, Legends Awaken

Become a legend in your own time when you play the Pokémon TCG: Diamond & Pearl—Legends Awakened expansion! Powerful Legendary Pokémon like Regigigas and Heatran, more amazing Pokémon LV.X than ever before, and a host of other game-changing Pokémon will make your battles even more epic. And with new Trainer and Supporter cards, you will awaken the legend within yourself. The legends are rising to the challenge—will you rise with them?

The Legends Awakened expansion arrived on 20 August 2008 with a hefty 146‑card roster, bringing Sinnoh’s slumbering titans to life. Adapted from Japan’s dual sets Cry from the Mysterious and Temple of Anger, it casts the spotlight on Heatran and Regigigas, while weaving in the complete lake‑guardian trio, Deoxys’s multiple Forms, and an atmospheric mix of Ice‑Age evolutions like Glaceon and Mamoswine. Pack art featuring Regigigas, Heatran, Giratina, and Deoxys hinted at the scale inside, and two theme decks—Metal Surge (Regigigas) and Bombardment (Giratina)—gave players instant access to the new legends.

On the competitive front, Legends Awakened reshaped the 2009 metagame. Uxie (Set Up) became an all‑purpose draw engine that could refresh a hand to six cards at will, while Azelf (Time Walk) let players pluck prized tech Pokémon from Prize cards—a first for the mechanic. Mesprit (Psychic Bind) locked Poké‑Powers for an entire turn, creating the control core of the infamous “AMU” deck alongside their corresponding LV.X cards. The set also introduced the trio of Poké Drawer +, Poké Blower +, and Poké Healer +—items that could be played singly for a minor effect or in pairs for a game‑swinging bonus, rewarding clever hand management.

Collectors discovered a trove of curiosities. Two secret‑rare Shiny Pokémon—Duskull (147/146) and Drifloon (148/146)—appear with retro Ken Sugimori artwork and a textured foil that glitters under angled light. Place Deoxys Speed Forme 15/146 beside its Normal, Attack, and Defense counterparts and their background auroras link to form a hidden panorama of meteor showers. Finally, early reverse‑holo sheets feature a darker foil layer on about one in forty commons; these subtle “midnight” variants are still chased by print‑run enthusiasts today. Whether for its tournament‑defining engines or its Easter‑egg‑laden foils, the Legends Awakened Pokémon set lives up to its name by reviving the power—and mystery—of Sinnoh’s most storied myths.
