The Pokémon Legacy Evolves!

All Trainers and Pokémon grow and evolve—and this expansion restores the very first Pokémon trading cards to glory! With the exhilarating power of Mega Venusaur-EX, Mega Charizard-EX, and Mega Blastoise-EX, plus some wild surprises like Dragonite-EX, Ninetales BREAK, Machamp BREAK, and Mega Slowbro-EX, the classic hard-battling Pokémon and old-school Trainers are reinvented for a new generation. Ask Professor Oak to get you started, and reach new heights with the Pokémon TCG: XY—Evolutions expansion!

Evolutions Pokémon Set is the twelfth and final main expansion of the Pokémon TCG XY Series, released in Japan on September 16, 2016 as Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary and in English on November 2, 2016. Celebrating the franchise’s 20th Anniversary, this set revisits the original adventures of Red, Blue, and Green by reprinting classic Generation I cards with a modern twist. As a capstone to the XY Era, Evolutions Pokémon Set brings the nostalgia of the Base Set back into play alongside today’s gameplay mechanics, making it a must‑own for both veteran collectors and new trainers alike.

True to its name, Evolutions Pokémon Set faithfully recreates beloved Base Set cards—Charmander, Blastoise‑EX, Pikachu, and more—while updating them for the current format. You’ll notice the Pokédex numbers, Weakness, Resistance, and Retreat Cost have been moved into their modern positions, and every Pokémon’s HP, Type, Abilities, and attacks have been rebalanced to fit today’s competitive scene. Pokémon‑EX in this expansion sport a luxe gold border and dynamic artwork reminiscent of the original holographic prints, while M Pokémon‑EX like Mega Charizard‑EX continue to dazzle with oversized illustrations and powerful “Mega” attacks.

Beneath its surface appeal, Evolutions Pokémon Set is packed with delightful surprises. In Korea, the set launched as BASE PACK 20th Anniversary—a hybrid of English and Japanese cards—offering 113 cards that blend both regional lists (notably including “Here Comes Team Rocket!” as a main‑set card). Collectors chasing complete runs will trade across versions to snag exclusive promos and regional rarities. And for those hunting secret treasures, the English set hides a handful of mirror‑foil Secret Rares—just like the original Base Set’s rarest pulls—ensuring every booster pack crack still carries the thrill of discovery.
