Beyond the Horizon Lie the Dragon Frontiers
Journey further than any Trainer has ever been when you explore the islands where powerful Dragon Pokémon rule! In EX Dragon Frontiers, you’ll find rare Pokémon-ex Delta Species, long-awaited Pokémon, and new ways to do battle like you’ve never seen before. Can you hear that distant roar? The Dragon Frontiers are calling you!
The EX Dragon Frontiers Pokémon set touched down on November 8 2006 (English) after its Japanese debut as Offense and Defense of the Furthest Ends on June 29 2006. Built around an isolated island where Delta Species Pokémon thrive naturally, this fifteenth EX‑Series expansion delivers 101 cards and crowns the Holon saga with an all‑Delta roster. Every Pokémon—whether it’s a starter like Bayleef δ or a powerhouse like Dragonite ex δ—carries the signature double‑helix frame and the δ insignia between its name and HP. Four striking booster‑pack designs (Latios ex δ, Latias ex δ, Tyranitar ex δ, and Dragonite ex δ) underline the set’s draconic theme and made display boxes pop on hobby‑shop shelves.
Gameplay depth soars in this frontier. With Holon Legacy in play, every Pokémon on the field becomes Delta Species and loses Weakness and Resistance, opening wild deck‑building angles for single‑type metas. Supporters such as Island Hermit speed up Fossil digs, while Holon Engine staples—Holon Mentor, Holon Researcher, Holon Adventurer—return to keep hands flowing. Off‑type Pokémon‑ex shine brightest: Flygon ex δ (Lightning) accelerates Energy to your board, Gardevoir ex δ (Fire) punishes Special Energy users, and Latios ex δ can snipe for quick Prize swings. With virtually every attacker sharing Colorless Energy costs, Dragon Frontiers became a sandbox for inventive hybrid lists at the 2007 World Championships.
For collectors, the island hides sparkling relics. The set’s two Gold Star cards—Charizard ☆ δ (Darkness‑type) and Mew ☆ δ (Water‑type)—sit at numbers 100/101 and 101/101, breaking the art frame with shiny palettes that routinely command four‑figure sums in pristine grade. Dragon Frontiers is also the only expansion where every Pokémon is Delta Species, a distinction that makes binder pages look uniquely uniform. Early print runs display a barely visible “micro‑text” along the helix border of some commons, and sealed booster boxes include a coin featuring the set logo—last coin bonus of the EX era. From gameplay ingenuity to collector grails, the EX Dragon Frontiers Pokémon set remains the ferocious frontier where Delta legend reached its peak.
