BRACE YOURSELF FOR AN ALL-NEW ERA OF BATTLE!

Get ready for an epic adventure. Collect Pokémon from the Kanto region and send them head-to-head against Pokémon from Hoenn. Capture them. Train them. And, move one step closer to becoming a Master Trainer!

The EX FireRed & LeafGreen Pokémon Set burst onto the scene on August 30, 2004, perfectly timed with the Game Boy Advance remakes to deliver a wave of pure Kanto nostalgia. Known in Japan as Flight of Legends, this sixth EX Series expansion was also the first release of the new PCG era, sporting a refreshed silver frame and completely ditching the bulky e-Reader barcode for good. Collectors were treated to 116 cards (112 in the main set plus four secret rares), split across twin theme decks—FireRed and LeafGreen—that mirrored the video-game box art right down to the color palette.

Gameplay-wise, the EX FireRed & LeafGreen Pokémon Set is remembered for its powerhouse lineup of Pokémon-ex. Heavy hitters like Charizard ex, Blastoise ex, Venusaur ex, and Gengar ex instantly reshaped tournament play, while Pidgeot’s “Quick Search” Poké-Power became the format’s premier consistency engine for years. Staple Trainers such as Celio’s Network debuted here, providing reliable search options long before modern alternatives like Ultra Ball. The set’s new reverse-holo pattern—tiny Poké Balls scattered across the artwork—gave even common pulls a premium shine and a distinctive visual identity.

Several lesser-known gems keep the EX FireRed & LeafGreen Pokémon Set on every collector’s radar:

  • The Wartortle Prerelease promo was the first stamped card to feature the newly redesigned Poké Ball logo instead of EX branding.

  • Secret rares begin with Charmander (#113/112)—sparkling in holo for the first time—and continue with the legendary birds Articuno ex, Moltres ex, and Zapdos ex, each numbered beyond the set list.

  • Early print runs contain faint embossing errors on reverse-holo Trainer cards, making them a quiet treasure hunt for condition-focused collectors.

  • Due to the immense popularity of Pidgeot, sealed FireRed theme decks vanished rapidly and now out-price most booster packs from the era.

With its blend of classic Kanto favorites, powerful competitive staples, and refined card aesthetics, the EX FireRed & LeafGreen Pokémon Set remains a flame-lit, leaf-green cornerstone of the early EX era.
